saw pilates method reformer training - next session starts summer 2026

learn how to teach pilates reformer

About our Training

Overview: The SAW Pilates Reformer certification program consists of 100 hours that encompass  online learning, private sessions, attending classes, solo practice, observation, practice teaching, and additional workshop hours. This course equips you with the skills to instruct both group classes and individual private sessions on the Pilates reformer. You will learn how to teach the following in our teacher training: Foundation Reformer Classes, Group Reformer Classes, Intermediate and Advanced Reformer exercises, Circuit type classes and our new ReforMORE strength/ reformer classes and our signature ANCHORED classes.

In-studio group classes, along with observation, private sessions, and solo practice, will begin on mid June 2026. The teacher training program is designed to be both intensive and demanding. We believe that immersing yourself fully in all aspects of Pilates reformer within this focused timeframe will best prepare you to become an effective Pilates reformer instructor. You will have the responsibility of managing much of your own time.

Our Certification

Here’s a breakdown of the training:

  • 10 Private Training Sessions (personalized instruction and form)
  • 25 Group Reformer Classes (client perspective + flow understanding and getting a feel from different classes, instructors)
  • 15 Hours Practice Teaching (with real-time feedback and coaching)
  • 5 hours Observation ( observing the different class types/ instructors)
  • 20 Hours Independent Practice (access to studio to practice)
  • Additional programming, cueing, and teaching methodology to complete the full 100 hours
  • TEST OUT: teach all class formats to a group of our instructors.

What makes this training unique to SAW Pilates is the integration of our signature class formats:

ReforMORE™
A strength-forward Reformer approach that incorporates weights and progressive overload principles. Trainees will learn how to safely layer strength training into Pilates while maintaining proper form, control, and flow.

Anchored™ Integration
Utilizing wall-based Stroops resistance systems, this portion of the training focuses on dynamic resistance, stability, balance, and functional movement. Trainees will learn how to incorporate anchored resistance into both Reformer and hybrid class formats, expanding their ability to work with a wider range of clients—including athletes and dancers.

Jumpboard

This portion of the training introduces dynamic, low-impact plyometric work using the Reformer jumpboard. Trainees will learn how to incorporate cardio-based intervals, power development, and endurance training while maintaining proper alignment and control. Emphasis is placed on safe landing mechanics, core stability, and sequencing jumpboard work into class flows that elevate heart rate without compromising form—making it accessible for a wide range of clients while adding variety and energy to sessions.

To give you a better idea of the flow, here’s how the training is typically structured:

Weeks 1–2:
Foundations, Reformer setup, safety, basic exercises, and understanding movement patterns in your own body

Weeks 3–4:
Building exercise knowledge, transitions, spring changes, and observing/participating in group classes

Weeks 5–6:
Begin practice teaching, introduction to cueing, and foundational ReforMORE strength integration

Weeks 7–8:
Advanced exercises, Anchored integration, stability and balance training, and refining class flow

Weeks 9–10 (or completion phase):
Practice teaching with feedback, mock classes, and building confidence to lead full sessions

Timeline:
We would like you to complete the program within 8–12 weeks, depending on scheduling and availability. The structure is flexible while still keeping you progressing consistently.

Certification

In contrast to certain industries, there isn't a singular governing authority that decides who is qualified to certify Pilates instructors. Instead, various organizations provide extensive training programs. The Pilates Method Alliance (PMA) is actively developing a standardized examination designed to assess the dedication of individuals aiming to become teachers. This PMA test will be tailored for instructors who have completed over 450 hours of training and have received certification on all Pilates equipment and apparatus, rather than solely on the reformer.

Completing our SAW Pilates Method Reformer Teacher Training is a fantastic achievement, but it does not guarantee a teaching position at SAW Pilates. Every studio has its own standards for certification and hiring, and most—including ours—require an audition where you demonstrate your teaching skills on the reformer and a circuit class in a class setting. Our training prepares you to teach, but securing a position depends on studio needs, teaching ability, and fit within the team.

Our Instructors

At SAW Pilates, our dedicated team of skilled instructors brings a wealth of experience in both classical and evidence based Reformer Pilates, creating a nurturing and dynamic learning atmosphere. Our instructor training goes beyond just the fundamentals; we are committed to continuously pushing our trainees to enhance their understanding, hone their teaching techniques, and elevate their personal practice. You will gain practical teaching confidence through hands-on experience, class observations, and personalized mentorship, learning how to adapt and safely progress clients. We cultivate a mindset of ongoing development, motivating you to embrace new challenges, and appreciate the constantly evolving nature of Pilates. By training with us, you become part of a community that prioritizes knowledge, excellence, and a passion for movement, paving the way for your success in the reformer teaching profession.

Join Our Community

To enroll in the SAW Pilates Reformer Training program, applicants must have at least 6 months of experience on the reformer, preferably at SAW Pilates. High standards are maintained to enhance personal Pilates skills, requiring commitment to SAW classes prior to training.
